Abstract

Objective To investigate and analyze the nutritional status in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD) from Yangjiang People's hospital, low down the average hospitalization days by treating these patiens with nutritional support. Methods 133 patients with COPD during 2010.1.1 to 2010.6.30 were analyzed. Dietary conditions were used three days after admission. Body mass index (BMI), triceps skinfold thickness (TSF), blood albumin(ALB) were also measured in the day of admission. Finally the length of hospitalization was recorded for each patient. Results 76.7% of patients' dietary calorie were not achieved 90% of the recommended amount; 63.9% of patients' BMI were lower than 18.Skg/m2, the proportion was 63.9%; 62.4% of patients' TSF were lower than 90% of the normal value;42.1% of 56 patients' ALB were lower than 35g/L. After treated with nutritional support, the average hospitalization days of patients with COPD were decreased 3.2 days compared with the patients of 2009.Conclusions Malnutrition is common among the in-patients with COPD. It is necessary to treat these patients with nutritional support to improve their nutritional status. Key words: COPD; Nutritional status
