Abstract

Interviews with 39 university professors indicate that immediately after tenure, faculty service increases, sometimes sharply. However, professors can turn increases into opportunities to improve their scholarly knowledge or to extend their understanding of the university or themselves. Findings suggest that professors who thoughtfully craft their service may gain professionally.
