Abstract

The post-September 11 reality is quickly becoming one of ubiquitous social control. Frame Critical Analysis is used to examine the continuity of crime and social control practice in urban centers in the US. The concept of Ideologies of the Normative is employed as a framework for decoding crime and social control narratives associated with New York City during the Administration of (then) Mayor Rudolph Giuliani. The consequences of the racialized over-control of communities of color in New York City are demonstrated by the case of the shooting death of African immigrant Amadou Diallo.
