Abstract

The Slavic Society was founded in Trieste in 1848. Its members endeavoured to bring together, educate, and entertain the Slavic inhabitants of Trieste while also integrating them into the great Slavic family. According to the established narrative, the Slavic Society was the voice of all Trieste Slavs; however, based on extensive archival materials, the author of the article presents it as the voice of a thin stratum of well-educated Trieste Slavs. She also emphasises the importance of intellectual networks that influenced the activities of the key actors of the Slavic Society and their role in disseminating liberal ideas.
