Abstract

In chapter, we have reported the distribution and solubility of solute benzoic acid in gram/100 gram of solvent as into water and in different pH benzene-buffer solutions which are analyzed by using of titration method. The partition study of these acid into hydrophilic solvent (water) and in hydrophobic (benzene) layer by shake-flask acid-base titration method, at 25°C (as room temperature) for 24 hours. In titrimetric estimation the benzoic acid (solute) solubility and their distribution in between aqueous solvent and in different pH buffer solutions as in acidic (4.0), neutral (7.0) and basic (9.0) medium, a phenolphthalein indicator have been used. In this experiment, different pH benzene-buffer solutions (4.0, 7.0, and 9.0) are titrated against 0.01, 0.05, and 0.1N NaOH solutions using phenolphthalein indicator, with the end point displaying a pink colour for each reading. By using the normality determination equation and the distribution coefficient of that acid from the Nernst distribution law equation,
