Abstract

Titanium coating on diamond surface was treated with conventional and microwave salt bath plating methods. The composition and morphology of the coatings were analyzed by XRD, SEM, EDS and TEM. The results indicated that uniform and dense coatings were obtained on diamond particles after microwave-assisted salt bath plating at 850 °C for 20 min, while the deposition of titanium was incomplete by conventional heating salt bath treatment at 850 °C for 120 min. It indicates that a complete and dense titanium coating can be obtained on diamond surface at a lower temperature and a shorter time by microwave heating.
