Abstract
I N 1963 Smith, et al., 4,5 repor ted the treatment of rup tured interver tebral discs by injection of Chymopapain , the major component of crude papain. Garvin, et al., 1 continued these studies in 1965. Our invest igation was designed to evaluate long-term pathological changes from Chymopapain. We have been most interested in Smith's s ta tement tha t Chymopapa in has specificity for the nucleus pulposus.
