Abstract

pH readings were taken at various time intervals of the periapical tissues of beagles' teeth with open apices. The teeth had been infected with a virulent strain of Streptococcus faecalis. After inoculation, some teeth were treated with an acid paste, others with a basic paste, and others infected only. Regardless of treatment, all periapical tissues gave similar pH readings, initially falling to pH 6.5, then rising to pH 7.1 to 7.2 6 months postoperatively. pH readings were taken at various time intervals of the periapical tissues of beagles' teeth with open apices.
