Etiology can be autoimmune, infectious, traumatic, environmental or pharmacological. Pain appears in some types of thyroiditis. Depending on disorder stage, functionally its presentation either with thyrotoxicosis, hypothyroidism or both. Although diagnosis is easy, a proper differential diagnosis, as well among them as with non-inflammatory thyroid conditions (Graves-Basedow disease [GBS] or toxic nodular thyroid disease [TNTD], for example) is required. Proper diagnosis and treatment (relatively easy in most cases) involve a good prognosis. Presentation either be latent or almost silent or have a greater impact in the short, medium or long term.
