Abstract
We examined the effects of tinted contact lenses on the reaction time and recognition probability for red. signal lights by normal and colour defective observers. Reaction time was significantly increased when protanopes, protanomals and deuteranopes wore tinted contact lenses. Optometrists prescribing such lenses should be aware of the potential problems they may pose for colour defectives in responding to red signal lights, especially under adverse viewing conditions.
