Abstract

An endemic focus of tinea capitis caused by Trichophyton violaceum was isolated in children of Caniçal, Madeira. The affected children were treated with a daily dose of 125 mg oral terbinafine for 4 weeks. Clinical cure was achieved in 95% of the children, while 100% showed myco-logical cure. There was excellent clinical and laboratory tolerance to the drug.
