Abstract

The Multi-gap Resistive Plate Chambers (MRPCs) are parallel plate gas detectors known for their excellent time resolution. High precision in timing measurements makes these detectors suitable for Time-Of-Flight (TOF) studies in several experiments. We have developed two nearly identical oil-free bakelite MRPCs. The time resolution measurements of these detectors with cosmic rays have been reported here. • Multi-gap resistive plate chambers can be made with bakelite sheets without any oil coating. • Bakelite MRPCs also show good time resolution. • Induced charge in bakelite MRPCs also increases with increase in applied high voltage.
