Importance of timing of maternal combined tetanus, diphtheria, and acellular pertussis (Tdap) immunization and protection of young infants. Clin Infect Dis. 2013; 56(4): 539– 544; doi: https://doi.org/10.1093/cid/cis923Google Scholar Researchers at Baylor College of Medicine sought to determine whether infants born to mothers who had received the tetanus, diphtheria, and acellular pertussis (Tdap) vaccine 2 to 24 months prior to delivery were protected against pertussis infection through 2 months of age. Mothers were eligible if delivery occurred at ≥37 weeks’ gestation during the study period of 2009 to 2011. Participants were excluded if they met diagnostic criteria for recent pertussis infection. Maternal serum and infant cord blood IgG values to pertussis-toxin (PT) were reported as geometric mean concentrations (GMC) and compared between mothers who had been vaccinated preconception and during pregnancy.
