Abstract

We investigate the influence of rare-gas (Xe, Kr) overlayers on the ultra-fast dynamics of photoexcited electrons in image-potential states on Cu(111). A density matrix calculation using the Liouville-von-Neumann equation gives a fully consistent description of the time-dependent two-photon photoemission process. Our studies provide new insights into electronic dephasing at metal surfaces.
