Abstract

AbstractTransient wave propagation in unbounded domains is considered in this paper. The scaled boundary finite element method is used to model the far field. This technique is originally formulated in the frequency‐domain. Two extensions of the method which lead to a direct description of the unbounded medium in the time‐domain are described, that is the rational approximation and the continued‐fraction expansion of the dynamic stiffness.
