Abstract

AbstractWater flow from line sources is analyzed using a linearized form of the moisture flow equation. Both single and parallel line sources are considered. Results are particularly relevant for high‐frequency irrigation, such as by trickle sources, for which the soil moisture at any particular point varies over a relatively small range. Numerical calculations include lines of constant matric flux potential (or equal moisture content) as a function of time and the time‐dependent response to a cyclic input. Although the results are developed for surface sources, the analysis may easily be extended to buried sources.
