Abstract

Our balloon‐borne Ge gamma‐ray telescope has recently been flown for a third time over Alice Springs, Australia to further study the galactic center 511 keV positron annihilation line. The source was found to be in an off or low state. A preliminary flux estimate of 0±4×10−4 photons cm−2 s−1 has been made. This result is discussed in the context of other observations and theoretical models.
