Abstract
(N Engl J Med. 2023;388:1050–1051) The ductus arteriosus briefly closes soon after birth in healthy term infants while staying open in most extremely preterm infants (<28 wk of gestation). While patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) has been shown to increase the risk of adverse outcomes, no causative pathway between PDAs and these complications have been established and optimal treatment for PDA in preterm infants is unclear.
