Abstract
Complex event processing drives many of the world's most advanced computerised trading systems. But it's not just for the frantic share shufflers - it could soon be coming to a computer near you. The key to the trading systems is complex event processing (CEP): a technique that provides a computer with the ability to look at hundreds of near simultaneous actions and work out what to do. Because it is derived from a style of design called event-driven architecture (EDA), some believe that CEP is a technology that can be used well beyond finance.
