Freelancer. Contractor. Flex worker. There are plenty of terms to describe the myriad of specialists who make up today's gig economy. Non‐standard workers choosing to forego the traditional employer–employee relationship in favor of a more flexible, project‐ or time‐based payment arrangement have been around for a long time. From writers to rideshare, finance to farming, almost every industry offers an opportunity for gig workers to thrive. And the benefits flow in both directions; without the need to supply employee benefits, equipment or designated office space, companies that bring on gig workers can often find the exact specialist they need without the additional costs associated with hiring a full‐time staffer
