Abstract

Partial discharge (PD) detection is an efficient diagnosis method to prevent the failure of electric equipments arising from degrading insulation. A recognition system by PD for Gas Insulated Switch (GIS) through acoustic emission with Time Series Index (TSI) is proposed. This paper provides a nondestructive and online partial discharge monitoring by acoustic emission technology. Through the provided TSI that can effectively distinguish noise from field measured signal, the detection of interior faults for GIS can then be achieved more accurately. The effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed approach were demonstrated by both of lab and field studies. Through the experiment and practical examples, they showed encouraging results suggesting that the proposed approach was capable of correctly determination of the state of internal partial discharge in GIS effectively.
