Abstract

In this paper, we study photothermal effects in suspensions of gold nanorods in water. The heating occurs owing to the light absorption and it is especially effective when the light frequency is close to the frequency of the localised surface plasmon resonance (LSPR). We use the time-resolved Z-scan method to monitor the time-dependent temperature profile in the liquid under Gaussian beam illumination. Using the experimentally measure parameters we determine the conditions for vapour generation for different concentrations of gold nanorods.
