Abstract

We describe our recent results of time-resolved Raman measurements of graphite under rare gas ion irradiation, and propose a modified model for the change of the phonon correlation length under ion irradiation. Transient change in phonon correlation length has been studied from the change in the first-order Raman spectrum. Lattice disorder caused by ion irradiation is explained in terms of a reduction in the phonon correlation length due to defects induced by ion irradiation.
