Abstract
Transient ESR signals of the photoexcited 3nπ* state of benzophenone have been studied in organic matrices. This is the first report of the direct observation of ESR spectra of the randomly oriented benzophenone triplet state at 77 K. The spectra are broad compared with those of the 3ππ* states. The initial spin polarization and the solvent effects are discussed.
