Abstract

The NA48 experiment aims to measure direct CP violation in the neutral kaon system. The measurement of the event time is crucial for this experiment, particularly for the neutral modes, since this allows the identification of the kaon type (KL or KS). The time performance of the liquid krypton calorimeter measured in 1996 with 50GeV electrons is presented. A time resolution better than 260ps has been achieved and the tails of the time distribution are at the level of 10−5. This time performance of the calorimeter is in excellent agreement with expectation.
