Abstract

Greek‐American spiritual kinship is treated as a system of kinship symbols which contrast with the symbols of consanguineal and affinal kinship. The dimensions of this three‐way contrast between spiritual, consanguineal, and affinal kinship are nature vs. spirit (or, alternatively, time vs. eternity) and birth vs. sex. Transformations of the symbols birth and love between the natural and spiritual worlds are analyzed.
