Abstract

AbstractThe short‐time Fourier transform is applied to analyze the backscattered signal from a finite dielectric grating. The resulting time‐frequency display provides a clear description of the different scattering mechanisms, including edge diffraction, surface Floquet reflection, and surface wave propagation. In addition, Floquet harmonics are found to be excited not only by the incident plane wave, but also by the surface waves launched at the edges of the grating. © 1993 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
