Abstract

Time-domain measurement techniques have been applied to the evaluation of pulse timing fluctuations in a monolithic mode-locked laser diode operating at 20 GHz. The time interval analysis and the time-domain demodulation techniques, both developed by the present author, are utilized for the evaluation of passively and hybrid mode-locked lasers, respectively. Phase noise power spectral densities have been measured from 2.5 to 34 MHz Fourier frequency with 300-dB dynamic range.
