Abstract
Time-division multiplexed interrogation of three nearly identical fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs) is reported. A directly modulated distributed-feedback laser array is used as a frequency-scanning pulse source. Weak reflections from the FBGs are temporally resolved as beat signals with a high signal-to-noise ratio using heterodyne detection. Reflection spectra from the FBGs with a reflectivity of 1% and spatial intervals of 4.5 m are observed. Finally, the application of this technique to systems with 20 identical FBGs is discussed.
