Abstract

A new class of time dependent solutions for temperature and solute concentration in and around the freezing drop of a binary solution are presented. These solutions take into account the effects of the surface tension on the interface between the liquid and solid phases. Unlike the classical solutions, ours do not belong to the class of self-similar solutions but they still predict that the radius of the solid sphere is growing proportionally to the square root of time.
