Abstract

Scattering is analyzed nonperturbatively for time dependent one dimensional independent particle models representing quantum well structures in applied electric fields. A compact electron tunneling current expression is given from which the Tsu-Esaki result appears as the first term in a Neumann or Fredholm series expansion. Results are recast in terms of S-matrices obtainable from the single particle Schrodinger equation. Generalized unitarity relations are presented for the S-matrices.
