Abstract

The fatigue behavior of metal matrix composites reinforced with silicon carbide fibers is influenced by temperature. A clear example of this is shown by recent work investigating the crack growth behavior of notched, unidirectional SCS-6/TIMETAL{reg_sign}21S composite. This paper discusses an investigation of several factors such as temperature, exposure duration, and applied stress level that contribute to the degradation in the fiber/matrix interfacial integrity of continuously reinforced titanium matrix composites (TMC).
