Abstract
David Resnik (1999) has provided an excellent and balanced review of issues about the Human Genome Diversity Project (HGDP). This project has aroused much controversy, being condemned as socially irresponsible, with racist exploitation, cultural imperialism, biopiracy, invasion of privacy, and deprivation of an individual's rights. The current raging ethical issues about the HGDP should be viewed in the historical perspective of past controversies concerning many scientific and medical advances.
