Abstract

The utility of the discrete Wigner distribution (DWD) in the analysis of nonstationary signals has already been established in many areas of signal processing. The DWD, however, like the fast Fourier transform (FFT), is a baseband analysis tool. In many applications, spectral analysis is concerned with the analysis of a band of frequencies away from baseband. In this paper, a band-selectable (or zoom) DWD is presented. Theoretical and implementation aspects of the Zoom DWD are discussed along with its possible applications to the areas of computer aided manufacturing and artificial intelligence driven systems for signal analysis. Conclusions are drawn concerning the utility and implementation of the Zoom DWD.
