Abstract

An extension of the cranking model allowing for the rotation axis to deviate from the principal axes of the deformed mean-field is a promising tool for the spectroscopic study of rapidly rotating nuclei. We have applied such a Tilted Axis Cranking (TAC) method to a simple system of one-quasiparticle coupled to a triaxial rotor and compared it with a particle-rotor coupling calculation in order to check whether the spin-orientation degrees of freedom can be described well within the mean-field approximation. The result shows that the TAC method gives a good approximation of observable quantities and it is a suitable method to understand the dynamical interplay between collective and single-particle angular momenta.
