Abstract

Social media engagement among youth has rapidly become more prevalent and pervasive, particularly with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, during which time it became the default method of socialization for many. Typical characteristics of social media habits are evolving rapidly along with their effects on mental health, limiting the utility of older data and making an understanding of the latest research invaluable for practitioners. We present novel work by leading researchers documenting patterns and parameters of youth social media engagement and their significance for contemporary psychiatry.
