Abstract

Glycemic control has been shown to contribute to morbidity, mortality and length of stay for post-op Vascular Surgery patients. Tight Glycemic control contributes to positive outcomes in wound healing, graft patency and myocardial ischemia. Diabetes has long contributed to the increased incidence and virulence of vascular disease. A program for tight glucose control in diabetics undergoing vascular surgical procedures has been adopted by this hospital. We have found an improved infection rate, improved wound healing and a decreased length of stay for these patients. We have continued a comprehensive risk factor modification program with increased emphasis on glycemic control.
