Abstract

The identification of certain stages of carcinogenesis by enzyme histochemical methods was determined earlier. The duration of these stages was defined. In our present investigations we find an increase of the activity of proliferation recognisable by an elevated 3H-thymidine labelling index in stage III and III–IV. In stage IV the 3H-thymidine labelling index decreased to the primary level. Finally the beginning of neoplastic proliferation is connected with a new increase of the labelling index.
