Abstract

Tick-borne encephalitis is an important cause of central nervous system infections in parts of Europe, Northern China, Mongolia and Russia. In spite of global instability, activity holidays are increasingly popular and cruises are taking travellers to previously less accessible destinations. Close proximity makes Europe popular with UK travellers. Tick-borne diseases present a public health challenge in Europe and globally, with many travellers unaware of the risks of tick-borne encephalitis.
