Abstract

A series of the first 100 tibial fractures treated in a general surgical department according to the AO method is presented. One case of non-union, due to technical failure was encountered. Four cases of deep infection occurred. Two of these subsided after removal of the metal. Re-fracture was a problem occurring for different reasons in 6 patients. Most of the fractures were difficult ones and it is concluded that the AO method is a definite advance in the operative treatment of tibial fractures.
