Abstract

New sulfide Ti0.85Eu3SiS7 was obtained by a solid-state method. It crystallizes with the chiral space group P63, and the structure can be described as TiS6 octahedra and SiS4 tetrahedra constructed polyanionic framework, leaving the cavities for Eu atoms. Both Eu and Ti elements in the structure demonstrate mixed valences, resulting in a very small band gap, which is verified by the XPS and magnetic susceptibility measurement results, and is largely different from the other analogues and exclude the second-harmonic generation activity. The structural chemistry, various characterizations, and theoretical analysis on the structure-property relationship of Ti0.85Eu3SiS7 are reported.
