Abstract

We investigated THz surface polariton plasmon resonance of a left-handed material which has negative dielectric permittivity and negative magnetic permeability. We found that there are two bands of surface plasmon excited by p-polarized wave and, very interestingly, there is one band of surface polariton, magnetic surface polariton, excited by s polarized wave from the simulated reflection spectra. The magnetic surface plasmon resonance is due to the negative permeability. We also discussed that the enhancement of THz transmission through a left-handed material slab by the surface polariton resonance.
