Abstract
From a Rubiaceae plant, Thysanospermum diffusum Champ. var. longitubum Ohwi, a novel triterpene named thysanolactone ( 1) was isolated. The partial structure possessing an unprecedent type of A ring was elucidated by chemical and spectral methods, and the final determination of the structure was made by X-ray crystallography.
