Abstract

Thyroxine (T4) levels in plasma were measured in immature parr and mature male Baltic salmon parr over the period April to June. Both immature parr and mature male parr displayed a smoltification peak in T4 in mid-April. The T4 levels in the mature male parr were similar or higher (significant at one point only) than in the immature parr. The possible relation between T4 levels and saltwater adaptibility in the two groups is discussed.
