Abstract

Creatine phosphokinase (CPK) and lactic dehydrogenase (LDH) activity was measured in thyroid and myocardial tissue of control, TSH-injected and propylthiouraciltreated rats. Exogenous TSH increased the per g activity and specific activity of both enzymes in the thyroid gland. Endogenous TSH stimulationstimulation similarly enhanced thyroidal CPK and LDH activity but had no effect on myocardial enzymes. Lack of change from ACTH but selective increase by TSH of thyroidal enzymes suggest another specific effect of TSH. The possible significance of these findings is discussed.
