Abstract
In Reply.— Estimates of radiation exposure to the thyroid in the children with thyroid nodularity included in our report may be found in our earlier epidemiologic reports. 1,2 The actual measurement of iodine 131 in milk was not made during the period of above-ground nuclear testing. Estimates based on calculations from gross fission-yield data vary from 18 to 120 rads to the thyroid. From a comparison of observed vs expected excess nodularity, 3 it appears likely that exposure was closer to the lower estimate.
