Thyroid metastasis from lung cancer: A case series and review of the literature in Indian context

Abstract

Intrathyroidal metastasis from other primary malignancies is an extremely rare entity [1]. The distinction between primary and secondary thyroid malignancy is a very challenging issue as their treatment protocols are entirely different [2]. We report three cases of metastatic lung carcinoma with intrathyroidal metastasis found in the last five years at a tertiary care apex institution in Eastern India. All three cases differed in clinical presentation, radiological and pathological features, stage of disease and treatment protocol. The diagnosis and treatment of metastatic thyroid tumours remains a challenging issue in oncology due to the lack of differentiating radiological features and complex treatment protocols.
