Abstract

Because the clinical manifestations of both hyper-and hypothyroidism in elderly patients are often obscured or atypical, thyroid disorders in this population may evade diagnosis until critical complications develop. The physician must be aware both of the effects of various diseases on thyroid function in the elderly and of the impact of thyroid dysfunction on intercurrent diseases.
