Abstract

Background and aim: Hepatic fibrosis develops as a result of chronic liver injury caused by various factors and is characterized by the excessive secretion and accumulation of extracellular matrix proteins that leads to scaring of liver. Progressive fibrosis may lead to cirrhosis and even hepatocellular carcinoma. Thymoquinone (TQ) is known to have pharmacological properties like anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer effect. Thus, we aimed to assess the effect of TQ against thioacetamide (TAA)-induced liver fibrosis in rats.
