Abstract

In Elhakeem and Rahman (1988) a new spread spectrum (SS) system was proposed that does not have a separate acquisition mode of operation. The system uses random frequency hopping, Gold codes, two receiver banks, and a combined acquisition/coding technique so as to eliminate the acquisition stage of operation. In the present paper, an algorithmic detection scheme is proposed using two sets of receivers that combines acquisition and demodulation simultaneously for the said system. The authors show by analysis the merits of the new technique and compare it against a conventional frequency hopping multi-access system that needs non-overlapping code acquisition mode for its operation. The throughput efficiencies of the conventional and the new acquisitionless system are compared in the case where Reed Solomon codes are used.< <ETX xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">></ETX>
